![]() The Call for e-Freedom
At an e-Parliament hearing on democracy held in Indonesia, the legislators agreed that one key role for the e-Parliament should be to enable democratically elected representatives to speak out together for free expression on the global Internet. Even for the 40% of humanity who still cannot choose their own government, the Internet offers an opportunity to expand the space for democratic debate. They decided to begin with a Call for e-Freedom, supporting everyone’s right to express their views online, and calling for the release of the 100 or so individuals who are known to be in prison because they did so. The Call will be sent to all governments – including those who hold the prison keys. Legislators, citizens or groups are all invited to sign.
